Our history stretches all the way back to 1903, Theodore Roosevelt was the President of America and motor cars were few and far between on our roads. Back when punters were still paying in shillings, our predecessors had just settled in to the Glasgow Tobacco Warehouse, formally used for importing and trading tobacco across the world.
Our B-listed warehouse located in James Watt Street was built back in 1854 by architect, John Baird for Connel and Company. However, when he died in 1959 his book keeper and sons added the façade for the Glasgow Tobacco Warehouse Company (GTW!) which had been formed by Donald Black and William Isbister…and it’s been like that ever since!
Donald, noticed the demand for mini storage over in the US and hence The Glasgow Tobacco Warehouse Co. Ltd became GTW Storage Services Limited (that’s us!).
Fast forward 116 years, and the famous Tobacco Warehouse has been revamped to ensure it is safe, solid, secure and most importantly dry! We are spread over 8 floors, from basement right through to roof and cover a total of 250,000 square feet- so as long as you have belongings, we have space to store them!
