5th October 2015 By Sarah Currie

A self-storage unit is a rather dull thing, right? Well, that depends on how you look at it. Admittedly, on the one hand, it is essentially an empty room. It’s four walls, a ceiling and a floor; plus the occasional bit of shelving or cupboard space. You’re welcome to hang the odd painting on the wall to make it feel a bit more like home, but we personally wouldn’t bother.

On the other hand, your self-storage unit is a bit of an Aladdin’s Cave. Or at least, it has the potential to be. Allow us to explain…

Recognising the Potential of Self-Storage

Essentially, in itself, a self-storage unit is not an exciting thing, nor does it pretend to be. However, it offers tremendous potential in terms of flexible storage options. Here’s just a few ways in which renting a self-storage unit can make a real difference in your life.

  1. Memory storage?

If you’re anything like us, you probably have stacks of old photo albums at home, gathering dust in the attic. Not to mention diaries, letters from relatives, old postcards and a variety of other mementoes from the past. They don’t hold any monetary value, but they’re incredibly valuable to you. However, these sorts of items can often take up a lot of space, plus they’re vulnerable to damage. The slightest bit of dampness can ruin a pile of precious letters, and a leak in the garage is guaranteed to butcher a cardboard box full of photo albums. Here’s where rented storage space can really help. See it as a giant, physical embodiment of a USB stick – there to offer memory storage of a more meaningful kind.

  1. Cherished possessions.

As the years go on, it’s likely you’ll inherit a lot of items from relatives. These could range from simple samplers sewn by your Great Auntie Hilda, to huge pieces of furniture worth thousands. Unless these items are all very small, they can be challenging to store. Try finding a place to put that antique mahogany dining table! Of course, one option is to sell them. But it’s rather a shame, especially now that they’ve become a family heirloom. The other option is provided by a trusty self-storage unit, which provides the ideal spot to store precious possessions safely.

  1. High value items.

It’s always a little nerve-wracking having valuable items in the home, especially if they’re irreplaceable. Of course, it’s unlikely that you’ll be burgled, but if you live in a busy city like Glasgow, your chances of having a run-in with criminals is slightly higher. Placing your valuable items into a self-storage unit is a great way of keeping them safe – after all, these units are built to be virtually impenetrable! Of course, it’s still advisable to take out insurance to protect your items wherever they’re being stored.

Your Very Own Aladdin’s Cave?

Whilst we can’t promise to fill your storage unit with gold, rubies and diamonds every time you enter, we can promise safe, secure self-storage in Glasgow. Best of all, we offer really competitive rates, which means it won’t break the bank to store your treasured items.
