This Christmas spend time in someone else’s holly-decked halls
Glasgow’s got a whole lot going on this Christmas. Whether you’re a traditionalist or you love trying new things, there are lots of things to get you out and about to have a properly festive time. Here are some of the best things to see and do this year.
And the cattle are lowing
Don’t miss the traditional Blessing of the Crib. It takes place this year from 6:30pm on Wednesday 7th December in George Square. Beneath the Christmas lights a chorus of singers will join the Lord Provost to bless the city’s crib and to welcome the festive season. It’s a free event and all are welcome.
Presents galore at the Christmas Markets
This year Glasgow will boast two Christmas Markets. There’s the return of the popular market to St Enoch Square and another offering this year on George Square. At both you can enjoy a warming glass of festive cheer from the hand-made mulled wine on offer, treat yourself to some gastronomic treats and browse a host of unique Christmas gifts. And the George Square market will also offer live entertainment, fairground rides and lots of festive surprises.
Get busy on Glasgow’s Style Mile
With over 1,500 shops, you’ll find almost everything you need for the perfect Christmas right in the centre of Glasgow. And it’s never been easier to shop how you like. There’s extended opening hours, click and collect options and lots of food and drink on offer to keep you in peak-shopping condition.
On your marks, get set, go (ho ho)
Sleigh the opposition in the fun, festive 5k Santa run. This year sees the 10th anniversary of the Glasgow Santa Dash. Last year 6,000 Santa’s took part. This year they’re hoping for an even larger turnout to mark their special birthday. It’s a fun event for all ages and abilities. Adults, kids and family dogs are welcome. The race is on Sunday 11th December and this year’s nominated charity is Beatson Cancer Charity. After all, Christmas is all about giving.
Indulge your sweet tooth
Pop into Glickman’s for all the sweeties you remember from the past. It’s Glasgow’s oldest sweetie shop, and it’s a treat for everyone who likes their treats sweet. And their Christmas window display is worth a trip on its own.
Add some GSA style to your celebrations
The Glasgow School of Art shop has a fantastic range of beautiful things for you to surprise loved ones with. From prints and books to jewellery and cardboard engineering, there’s something for everyone here. And every purchase goes towards helping support the school.
Art on the Exchange
A chance to bag yourself some original art. There’s normally a wide range of styles on display. The pop-up operates most weekends between now and Christmas, and opens on more days the closer the big day gets.
There’s too much on to list it all
One thing’s for sure this Christmas in Glasgow – you shouldn’t be bored. So wrap up warm and get out there to create some Christmas magic yourself.

New year. New you.
It might be an idea to clear some space for all the presents you (and your family) receive this Christmas. So go on, start the clear out. You’ll be delighted you did once Christmas comes. You can donate things to local charities, or sell what you no longer need using an online marketplace, like eBay or Gumtree. And, for things you don’t use often but still want to keep, we offer all the storage you need in our state-of-the-art warehouse. See what we can do for you here.
Get your storage sorted, then start to really enjoy the festivities.
